Peter Burks quits The Garden Centre Group in reshuffle
Published: 23 November 2013
Peter Burks is one of several senior personnel leaving The Garden Centre Group in a further shake-up of staff.
A spokeswoman for TGCG told diyweek.net: "Rather than having 12 regional managers, there will be six. We've come up with a great balance of people with great managerial skills and horticulture expertise."
She confirmed that the people "who have decided to leave" are: Martin Andrews, Paul Dye, Paul Wright, Simon Baker, Chris Francis and Peter Burks, who was regional manager for four south west garden centres and is also chairman of the Garden Centre Association.
A statement from the garden centre chain said: "The Garden Centre Group is in the process of realigning the management structure of its retail group in order to simplify reporting lines, improve efficiency within the organisation, strengthen the focus of management and increase resources to better support our centres and our customers.
"The new structure, including appointments to fill new roles, will be finalised early next year. Our focus remains on creating a strong management team and deep bench of horticultural expertise to drive operational excellence across our business."
Following the acquisition of TGCG by Terra Firma in early 2012, and TGCG's own acquisition of Garden & Leisure in September this year, there have been many new appointments and departures at the company.
Last month, Garden & Leisure Group md Neville Prest resigned after its takeover and this was followed with another staff restructure. Two new people were also appointed to the TGCG's executive team. Dan Zinner joined as its trading director, taking over from Stephen Pitcher, who decided to leave the business following a transition period, and Colin Hughes joined as retail operations director. Mr Hughes held the same role on an interim basis for six months prior to his permanent appointment.
