Any retailers that are offered discounted Yankee candles are being asked to contact police after a Monmouthshire garden centre lost £23,000-worth of the products in a raid.
Sunnydale Garden Centre in Croesyceiliog was targeted some time between 12.10am and 4.20am on Tuesday March 31. Items stolen included large, medium and small candles priced at £5 to £10, candle lamp shades and air fresheners. The offenders also took 20 blue plastic shopping baskets from the centre to carry the haul out of the premises.
The thieves broke through a metal wall to get access to the garden centre and so did not set off the alarm.
Co-owner Philip Taylor told the South Wales Argus: "You just feel sick. We're a small family-run business and this past year we've invested very heavily into the garden centre and increased our Yankee candles intake by about five times."
He added that the break-in had had "a huge impact on trade" because Yankee candles were the garden centre's most successful gift line, amounting to half its gift sales.
Anyone with information relating to the incident, or who is offered any discounted Yankee candles, is asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number 120 31/3/15.
