Demonstrated 'live' at the DIY & Garden Show, Abranet's dust-free sanding, is probably the most important development in the history of sandpaper, which gave a spotless performance on the Mirka stand B41 and in the organiser's New Products Live event on day one at the DIY & Garden Show, January 13 - 15, Earls Court 2, London.

Dust free preparation of surfaces for decoration means a healthier working environment, quicker clean up and no dust sheets. A consistently even surface is achieved every time.

With these benefits Abranet has the potential to make a difference and open the door to new business opportunities. Painters and decorators can quote for 'Dust free decorating'. Customers will welcome this fresh approach to the age old problem of dust created by sanding. Life can proceed normally while the 'decorators are in' because the risk of contamination from airborne particles is effectively eliminated.

How does it work?
Abranet is a patented net abrasive that allows super efficient dust extraction through many thousands of minuscule holes. The system comprises a sanding block, Abranet sanding strip and flexible hose that connects to a vacuum cleaner. During sanding the vacuum simply sucks away the dust.

Starter kit packs contain a hand sander, five sanding strips – 1x P80, 3 x P120 and 1 x P180 grit – to suit virtually any preparation job, a soft foam pad for sanding mouldings or irregular surfaces and a flexible yet robust vacuum hose with a universal adaptor that connects to most brands of vacuum cleaner.

Starter kit pack prices start at £29.99 inc. VAT. A pack of ten sanding strips is also available at £7.35 inc. VAT.

Optional accessories include an anti-static telescopic pole sander, three sizes of hand block and of course a heavy duty vacuum cleaner should it be required.

Abranet comes with a good pedigree. It was developed by Mirka, a Finnish company and a world leader in the manufacture and development of coated abrasives.

Mirka is firmly established in the UK and a major supplier to the automotive refinishing market where it has won major awards for innovation and was named 'product of the year' by Bodyshop magazine.
