Last year, customer footfall for DIY, homewares and garden retailers was up by 9.5%** over the extended spring bank holiday weekend. Research by Halifax Insurance revealed that burglaries increase by 10% during the spring and summer months, as more people leave windows and doors open while they are out in the garden enjoying the sunshine. There is also a marked increase in burglaries during summer holidays, with larger numbers of people going on holiday leaving their houses empty, unsecure and unguarded.
