The Liverpool DIY store went into administration earlier this month, just four years after Rapid Hardware suffered the same fate. Unfortunately administrators Duff & Phelps have been unable to find a buyer for the beleaguered business and confirmed that today would be its last day of trading.

Rapid moved from its original Renshaw Street location to the former George Henry Lee Building in 2010. In 2013 it closed after falling into administration, but in a surprise move its former owners bought it back and reopened just a month later in March 2013 as Rapid Discount Outlet.

Around 50 staff have either been made redundant already or are facing redundancy in the next week. A spokesperson for Duff & Phelps said: “All remaining employees have been informed and will be supported through redundancy proceedings.”
