Owners look to make savings.
Rawlplug is to move all of its production facilities to Poland.
Managing director Gerry Munro told diyweek.net the switch will help to generate savings across the group.
It has already moved manufacturing equipment from the East Renfrewshire site to the Polish city of Wroclaw where the owner of Rawlplug Ltd – Koelner Group – is based.
Rawlplug was bought by the Koelner Group three years ago.
A Rawlplug statement said: "We are looking at making savings right across the group and as such all Rawlplug manufacturing will now take place in Poland.
"We have just started production in Poland this week and the process of moving the machines from Glasgow will continue and will be completed by May 31.
"We are still in consultation with staff about redundancies, but once the restructuring process is completed we expect to lose around one quarter of our staff in Glasgow.
"We are still fully committed to the site, which will remain our UK base for assembly, finance, sales and distribution."
Around 40 staff will lose their jobs.
Koelner is the largest Polish manufacturer and distributor of construction mounts and electric tools produced under the Koelner, Rawl, Modeco, Rawlplug and Globus brands.
Half of its production is exported to the EU and Eastern Europe and the business has plans to expand its product range.
