It was a proud moment for Essex-based locksmith Danny Baxter when ERA's Block Lock was recognised with a Silver Award at this year's DIY Industry Awards. As a long-standing ERA customer, Danny knew exactly where to take his innovative solution to van crime back in 2003 when the idea first came about.
Danny identified a need for a completely portable security solution for vans; something that could be used on rented vans where marking or drilling is prohibited. He developed a simple prototype based on a locking bracket system that could be fitted in seconds to any van, or even sheds and caravans, where high value items are often left without adequate security. It got the thumbs up from his contacts in the field so he put it forward to ERA Products, who were keen to take on the development.

A bold red and black theme was chosen for the packaging enhanced by a trade counter merchandiser to help merchants promote the Block Lock to tradesmen and van drivers alike.

When told about the award, inventor Danny said:

"It's great to see an idea from a real-life situation recognized in this way...and I didn't even have to go to Dragon's Den!"

The success of the Block Lock follows ERA's Cylinder Illuminator, which received a Silver Award at the 2007 Industry Awards.
