Rebuilding the damage - can you help?
Published: 12 August 2011
New initiative to bring together tradesmen, architects, construction companies and others to help rebuild damaged homes and businesses following the UK riots.
Young architects Lee Wilshire and Nick Varey have launched Riot Rebuild, bringing together people with the ability, skills and know-how to get the rebuilding process underway in towns and cities affected by the recent rioting.
The project is calling all those prepared to give up their time to help their local communities to get in touch, whether they are offering practical skills, or able to donate much-needed building materials.
The aim is to help people with either a business or a residential property in need of assistance, either with immediate rebuilding work, or further down the line with architecture or planning services.
Mr Varey said: "We have a list of professionals and tradespeople willing to provide their expertise and give real help free of charge to help rebuilding projects move swiftly in the right direction. This could be anything from getting a handyman to repair a bench outside a shop to giving advice on planning issues."
Riot Rebuild is being launched via social networking sites Twitter and Facebook, and follows the Twitter-driven clear up operation @riotcleanup, which saw hundreds of people take to the streets to help clean up after the rioting.
