Recall for electric-shock extension lead and cable

Published: 25 July 2012
An extension lead set and a brand of electric cable that can both give the user an electric shock have been recalled from the market.
The Chinese-made extension lead set, called European Electrico Soquete com Interruptor, but brand unknown, comprises three sockets and a 1.5m cable, packed in a transparent plastic bag. The cable has no earth lead and is not properly anchored so live parts can be accessed.

The product, which is type/model number N 4410421, batch number/barcode 770590104216, does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive and relevant European standard EN 60884.

The electric cable, sold under the name Voltrim Kable, poses a risk of both shock and fire as the electric resistance of the wires is too high and the insulation is not thick enough.

Made in Poland, the cable, type/model number YDYp z/o 4x1,5 mm2, does not comply with the LVD and the relevant European standard EN 50395.

Marketing of both products has been banned.
