Redditch B&Q robber causes £50,000-worth of damage

Published: 9 September 2013
A Worcestershire B&Q store suffered tens of thousands of pounds' worth of damage during a burglary last week.
The thief, who broke into the retailer's Smallwood branch, near Redditch, in the early hours of Thursday, September 5, also got away with a large quantity of cash.

The burglar piled up bags of wood chippings beside an exterior wall of the building and climbed up them. He then cut through aluminium sheeting and insulation and entered the store through the hole and onto a shelving unit inside.

He stole around £6,000 in cash from the store's tills and left the same way he got in. The damage to the building and tills is estimated to be around £50,000. Staff discovered the burglary the next morning.

West Mercia Police are appealing to the public for information. Ring 101 quoting incident 58-s-050913 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
