Redundancies at Beverley Garden Centre

Published: 15 December 2011
Sixty employees have been handed redundancy notices at Beverley Garden Centre in Woodmansey, part of the Garden Centre Group.
According to reports in the local press, the company's lease ends in January, and site owner Keygrowing is set to move another retail operator in.

However, the move is dependent on getting planning permission from East Riding Council, with a decision due to be made at a planning committee meeting this afternoon.

The future for Beverley Garden Centre staff hangs on this decision, as they wait to see whether the new tenant will honour its stated intention to keep them on.

Planning permission is reported to have been delayed over an objection over what could be sold at the site, but the application is recommended for approval.

Beverley Garden Centre opened in 2006, and offers furniture, gifts and food alongside a wide range of plants. The centre also has a restaurant and children's play area.

The Garden Centre Group was unavailable for comment.
