Remaining five T J Hughes stores set to close

Administrator Ernst & Young has confirmed that the remaining TJ Hughes department stores will close by the end of the month after it failed to find a buyer.
Wednesday, August 31 will be the last day of trading for the stores in Doncaster, Bradford, Sunderland, Lichfield and Wrexham. The latest spate of closures will result in 264 redundancies.
Ernst & Young has ordered the closure of 45 TJ Hughes stores since the ailing department store chain went into administration on June 30. It had hoped to find a buyer for the remaining five outlets but was unsuccessful. TJ Hughes' distribution centre in Liverpool, which employed 132 staff, was also closed last month.
However, six of the retail group's stores were saved in a deal with Lewis' Home Retail. The firm took on department stores in Liverpool, Eastbourne, Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield and Widnes. It also acquired the TJ Hughes name and website and has since announced a relaunch of the retailer's online shopping facility on tjhughes.co.uk
