Robert Dyas has appointed former Makro md Stephen McVey as chief executive officer, effective from July 25.
Mr McVey has held store management positions at B&Q, Curry's Retail and Do it All, and joined Makro UK in 1998 where he went on to become UK operations director and then managing director.
In 2007 he joined JTF Cash and Carry as managing director, and in the past 5 months has provided consulting support to Makro Habib in Pakistan.
Geoff Brady, who has spent six months as acting executive chairman at Robert Dyas, will now resume his role as non-executive chairman.
A statement from the retailer said: "The board would like to thank Geoff for acting as executive chairman and for his work over the past six months. A change in trading tactics has re-energised the business in a difficult economic climate.
"In the first 12 weeks of the Robert Dyas financial year in the period up to Saturday, June 18, cumulative like-for-like sales growth was 3%. The board welcomes Stephen to Robert Dyas and wishes him every success in his new role."
