UK shower designer and manufacturer Roman has achieved further success in its efforts to reduce its impact on the environment.
BSI recently conducted an ISO14001 audit of the company, which Roman says showed some outstanding results.
The company has three core environmental objectives, which are to reduce energy consumed as a direct proportion of business activity; increase the proportion of recycled waste; and eliminate and reduce any harmful emissions, discharges or pollutants.
The audit revealed a 9% reduction in energy consumption, with an estimated annual saving of £7,000. Roman also reduced its general waste by 60%, which in turn will save £5,500 a year in landfill and collection charges, and CO2 generation was found to have increased by 1.5% to 788 tonnes for Roman's own vehicles.
Finally, Roman's recycling of paper, card and plastic increased by 62%, providing added income of around £3,300.
Roman is now considering investing £20,000 in new factory lighting that will automatically dim when it is bright outside to reduce energy. Solar panels are also being looked at, along with a cost-effective solution for the recycling or disposal of wood.
