Shower designer and manufacturer Roman has completed a £50,000 revamp of its testing area, where it ensures all its products conform to the CE marking standards.
For shower enclosures the key standard is the BS EN14428, which tests for functional requirements. This then ensures the shower enclosure meets the EU Construction Products Regulation, and can legitimately carry the CE mark.
Shower enclosures need to undergo three main tests if they are to conform: a water retention test to ensure there is no leakage; opening and closing of the door 20,000 times to replicate a product lifecycle; and a swing ball test that imitates someone falling into the enclosure, to make sure that it is strong enough to withstand the impact.
The revamp of the testing area makes better use of the space, so more products and different tests can be carried out simultaneously.
Managing director David Osborne commented: "We're extremely rigorous with our CE mark testing and the new testing room is a great investment for the future in reinforcing our position as the UK market leader.
"We foresee CE compliance as an increasingly influential differential over the coming years."
