Screwfix has applied for permission to build a 300,00sq ft distribution centre next to its existing 325,000sq ft site in Stoke on Trent.
The company, which is the UK's largest multi-channel supplier of trade tools, plumbing, electrical, bathrooms and kitchens, says the building will be used mainly for additional storage and distribution purposes.
The expansion at Trentham will create an additional 107 full-time jobs on top of the 431 people who work at the existing site. Screwfix says there is also the potential in the future for another 200 jobs.
Speaking to the Stoke Sentinel, representing Screwfix, Tim Partridge, of RPS Planning and Development, said: "The development is necessary to consolidate and expand upon the existing Screwfix operations at their Trentham and Marchington sites.
"The decision to expand the existing Trentham site was taken after a UK wide search, as well as considering the extension of a number of other group warehouses across Europe.
"The development will contribute significantly to local job creation."
The existing site was opened in 2004 and fulfils next day orders. Screwfix also has a 540,000sq ft distribution centre in Stafford.
A decision on the plans will be made by Stoke on Trent City Council in July.
The remainder of 2014 looks good for Screwfix as it plans to
open 60 new stores across the UK.
Screwfix recently reported in its
end-of-year results that its total sales grew by 17.6%, 7.3% on a like-for-like basis to £665m.
