Shoppers show support over innuendo ads

Customers are backing a Derbyshire garden centre after it received a complaint over some 'sexy signs'.
Shoppers show support over innuendo ads
Garden King in Newhall, Derbyshire, has had the signs up for the past year boasting slogans such as 'get dirty in the garden' to advertise compost and 'get some tits in your garden' to boost bird feed sales.

The signs have got one customer feeling rather hot under the collar. The local resident rang up to complain, blasting the signs as 'disgusting' and a bad influence on young children.

However, manager Darren Sanders, speaking to DIY Week, insisted most customers love the cheeky billboards. He explained: "We had some innuendo signs made which we've had up for the past year, and a woman rang up to complain about them. She's the only person who's complained - all of our customers really like them, they're tongue and cheek humour. We've had a comment page up at the till for people to leave comments and they've all been positive."

A local newspaper ran the story and was inundated with messages of support from customers. One wrote: "There is too much of this 'PC' rubbish in this world and well done Garden King for bringing some fun into your garden centre." Another agreed: "It is a refreshing change to see signage with a bit of comedy and not trying to constantly push products down your throat."

Mr Sanders is very pleased with the positive reaction and said the signs are here to stay: "The signs are all associated to the products we sell, so it's up to people how they want to take them. We're not planning on taking them down."
