Retailers gear up for the busiest shopping day of the year, Manic Monday, with sales set to reach £537m.
Shopping comparison website Kelkoo has predicted that online sales will be 29% higher today than on Manic Monday last year, with internet shoppers spending a whopping £22.4m an hour.
UK households are expected to spend 22% of their Christmas budget online this year, with internet sales set to rise 29% on the previous year to £11.5bn.
But high street retailers fear not, as 10m consumers are expected to hit the shops on December 18, named by Kelkoo as Panic Saturday. Raiding shelves for last minute gifts, shoppers are predicted to spend up to £1.11bn - the equivalent of £764,00 per minute.
Overall, Christmas sales are expected to reach £68.7bn over the festive period - a year-on-year increase of 1.3% on 2009. UK households are predicted to spend more than their European counterparts this Christmas, shelling out an average of £673.56 - of which around £417 will be spent on gifts.
