Silverline Tools' drag racing event a success
Published: 28 September 2009
Annual power tool drag racing fun day attracts big names, including Toolstation and Makita, as well as Channel 5's The Gadget Show.
The fun event, organised by Silverline Tools and held on September 13, saw teams engineer hand held power tools into drag racing "mean machines".
There were two categories - ridden and non-ridden, with a 'funny car class' held outside the track that allows competitors to utilise items such as chainsaws and leaf blowers to create custom machines.
The competition in the funny car class was whittled down to four finalists, although Toolstation's go kart was the winner on the day, crossing the line in 8.9 seconds.
Makita UK's Scott Thompson said of the event: "It's been a fantastic, action-packed day - I've had a brilliant time. The drag racing has been really great fun and some of the entries are really awesome. Anyone who has an interest in engineering, power tools or drag racing would be well placed here and I'd urge them to take part in next year's event."
