Solus/Scotts deal 'back on table' claim denied

Published: 29 May 2014
Solus and Scotts both denied this afternoon that a deal between the two companies has been resurrected.
Comments posted on diyweek.net today claimed that Scotts was completing a buy-out of the wholesaler, which went into administration on May 15.

However, a spokesperson for Solus told diyweek.net that the claims were not true "in the slightest", and Martin Breddy, vice president and general manager of Scotts Company (UK), said "they are just rumours".

PwC, which is handling Solus' administration, said: "Discussions with interested parties are ongoing and we remain hopeful of securing a sale."

Solus and Scotts were in negotiations earlier this year that would have seen the wholesaler acquired by its biggest supplier. However, the talks broke down after Solus reportedly walked away from the deal.

This is bordering on farce, made worse by the sniping of obvious ex Solus sales reps / management at their replacements. Well in my case my new rep, who took over from a very experienced predecessor, and by listening to my needs and not shunting in stock (like the last bloke) has made a huge impact on my business the past 6 months. I do fear that all his hard work will be cruelly undone but keep up the good work young man, if this isn't sorted soon, you'll go far somewhere else - there's always an Americano on the go for you here!
