German security products producer and distributor Burg-Wachter today announced the acquisition of Sterling Locks - a deal described by the Leeds-based company as "very positive and exciting".
Sterling Locks to expand following acquisition by German firm
Privately-owned and family-run Burg-Wachter is a leading European business and brand name, with an international production and distribution base. It serves commercial and retail markets worldwide with a range that includes padlocks, electronic and mechanic door and window security, measurement technique, safes, cash boxes, letter boxes and access control.

The company says the purchase of Sterling Locks, also privately-owned, will bring it a complementary product range and enhanced access to the UK market. At the same time, the deal will bring Sterling into new areas of the security market.

Sterling managing director Tony Kelly told diyweek.net: "Burg-Wachter will help us to extend the scope of what we can offer to the market. The Burg-Wachter product range is similar in part but far more extensive. It also addresses the higher-tech, higher-quality side that we don't fully address now. For instance, Burg-Wachter have an extensive range of electronic security devices whereas we have a very limited range. There will be new products certainly, right from padlocks through to chains, cables and so on."

Sterling's range currently comprises padlocks, security and locking cables and chains, hasps and staples, postboxes, key cabinets and safes, Safecans, window and door locks and related security items.

Mr Kelly went on: "We're delighted to be joining a business with such similar values and standards. There are notable synergies in terms of sourcing, production and technical support as well as holes in our ranges that Burg-Wachter can fill. I see it as very, very positive, and the staff here are seeing it as very exciting and positive too."

The team at Sterling Locks will remain the same and customers will receive continuity of contact and support.

"However," added Burg-Wachter's Harald Lueling, "the brand will now be underpinned by Burg-Wachter's extensive technical expertise and manufacturing capability."
