Suspicious fire at Wickes store

Published: 22 September 2011
Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspicious fire broke out at a Wickes store in Worksop on Saturday night.
Suspicious fire at Wickes store
Flames at the store on Babbage Way were reported to police at 11.22pm. It is believed a wooden display shed on the premises was deliberately set alight, and the fire then spread to the main building.

The fire cause damage to an external wall and the roof and there was smoke damage to the interior of the store and stock. No one was in the building at the time of the incident.

A Wickes spokesperson said: "We can confirm that our Worksop store was damaged by fire on Saturday night and a police investigation is currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident... It would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment until the police and fire brigade conclude their enquiries."

After a safety inspection, the store was re-opened to the public yesterday, although several areas of the outlet remain closed to the public.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 0300 300 9999 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
