Fraudsters are still operating a scam whereby suppliers are led to believe that Tesco wants to place an order with them.
Diyweek.net first reported
the problem in April this year after a supplier received an email asking for prices, payment terms and delivery details. The email purported to come from a Mrs Bonny Curtis at Tesco's headquarters in Hertfordshire, but Tesco said that that was not the case.
Now there is apparent evidence that the scam merchants are operating globally. Indonesian furniture manufacturer and exporter Atlanteak posted a
comment on diyweek.net today saying that it has received a similar email.
Again, it supposedly comes from Mrs Bonny Curtis at Tesco, but is different in that it suggests there has already been correspondence between Atlanteak and Tesco and says that Tesco is now ready to place an order. The supplier is helpfully informed that "our first order will not exceed $305,000.00"!
