Intruders take safe from concession store in night time raid at garden centre site.
The burglars are believed to have gained entry to the garden centre premises on Straight Mile, Bourton near Rugby, by peeling back metal panelling.
They then searched administration offices during the incident last Thursday, before removing a safe that had been secured to an office wall.
The safe, which belonged to one of the garden centre's concessions, Antler, was later found abandoned at the side of Bilton Lane, Rugby, having been drilled and emptied of its monetary contents.
Blooms Rugby garden centre manager Carole Berry described the theft as opportunist and told DIY Week that intruders would not be so lucky next time. "Antler is our protected with our security. We will be stepping it up but we're pretty well covered as a whole. As always the thieves were just very fortunate and took an opportunity. Unfortunately we are in a rural situation and people think we are easy prey but we're not - if they try again, they won't be able to do what they managed to do this time."
Police are appealing for information and would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the vicinity of Blooms between 11.30pm to midnight on Thursday March 25 or in the locality of Bilton lane shortly afterwards.
Talking about the investigation, Ms Berry added: "There are no leads as far as I'm aware of but the police have taken away all of the CCTV footage and are working their way through that so we shall see."
