Thieves smash hole in wall to raid B&Q store

Published: 17 January 2012
High-value power tools and fires stolen from Wolverhampton DIY store in early hours of Monday, January 16.
Police were called to the site at 3:21am on Monday morning following reports of a burglary.

A West Midlands police spokesperson confirmed that the assailants gained entry to the building by smashing a hole in the brick wall, escaping with a large quantity of goods, including a pallet of 100 electric drills that retail at £99 each, and a number of expensive electric fires.

It is not the first time the store on the Spring Vale industrial estate has been a target, with two other burglaries in October and November 2010, when cash was stolen from the main office, and the theft of gas and electric fires, valued at around £370, in February last year.

Investigations into the latest burglary are ongoing, said the police spokesperson, who added that police cannot say whether or not the incident is linked to previous offences.

B&Q said of the incident: "We can confirm that our Wolverhampton store was broken into in the early hours of Monday morning. Nobody was hurt and the police are investigating and appealing for witnesses to get in touch with information. At this time we are unable to comment further, however, the store is now open for business."
