Topps Tiles says its first online competition and web app, launched in February, attracted over 500 entrants and more than 21,000 votes.
The success of the Show off Your Style contest, with activity linked to Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, will encourage the tile and wood flooring specialist in its aim to develop its online marketing strategy. It says it wants to grow its web-based community and use social media as a key brand engagement tool.
The competition encouraged homeowners and trade professionals to share pictures of their recently-renovated rooms via Topps Tiles' new online competition community. The pictures then collected votes from friends and colleagues, with a specialist judging panel deciding an overall winner. The website has registered over 35,000 hits.
Top prize of an iPad 4 and makeover went to Prakash Valambhia from Buggs Design in Ruislip; Eamon and Barley Green from Newark picked up a Kindle Fire; and Leicester-based Hans-Gerd Goldenpfennig, of Goldentiling won the third prize of a digital camera.
Head of marketing at Topps Tiles, Beth Boulton, described the standard of entries from both retail and trade customers as "exceptional".
"We're excited about developing the site into a longer-term Topps Tiles social media community. The popularity of home renovation is huge and we're keen to contribute to the creative process by building a platform which empowers people to exchange ideas and gives them the inspiration they're looking for to support their own renovating projects," she said.
