Totally shows quadruple visitor figures

Published: 23 February 2010
Totally shows organiser Brintex has announced that visitor numbers at this year's shows were almost four times higher than in 2009.
Totally shows quadruple visitor figures
Some 9,372 visitors spent time in the Totally hall this year, compared with 2,511 last year - an increase of 375%.

The figures appear to unequivocally vindicate the decision to move the shows from London's Earls Court to co-locate with Spring Fair at the NEC, Birmingham this year.

However, the move also means that the figures cannot be compared on a like-for-like basis. Exhibition director James Murray explained: "We will not be able to present a direct comparison between the two shows because running alongside Spring Fair International obviously created a great deal of 'passing through' traffic.

"However, we are convinced that moving the show to Birmingham to run alongside Spring Fair International was the right choice for the show and has proved a popular decision for many visitors who found that they previously attended two shows."

However, direct comparisons would be possible going forward he said: "The 2010 figures will now act as a benchmark and we'll be working hard to grow and develop the Totally shows as the national trade show for the industry."

The Totally Shows 2011 will take place in Hall 11 of the NEC on February 6-8.

Yup, I am sure according to the organisers that the visitor numbers rose!! Let's not forget that 70,000 people attend the Spring Fair and of course 10% will have wandered into Totally DIY hall. This is not a vindication of the move to the NEC but more a vindication of a move to co-locate beside the UKs biggest trade show that has a massive visitor attendance. AS David Hynds points out its about ROI.

I think to be fair - having exhibited last year at the Earls Court venue, the visitor numbers were lower than I had expected but mainly due to some horrible weather conditions and a lack of exhibitors, making the show feel quite small - in terms of ROI frankly for a small business like myself it did not work - 2500 visitors is simply not enough foot fall and considering the marketing effort made by Brintex was very disappointing. I am delighted to hear that the NEC venue has worked out so well, I did visit the show and know several people who exhibited, certainly the foot fall is what should be expected of an industry show of this calibre. But in these times, the all important ROI is the true measure for the smaller business.
