United Carpets, the UK's third largest carpet and floorcovering retail chain, has posted strong preliminary figures for the year ending March 31 2008.
The figures show a revenue increase of 8.3% to £21.17m from £19.55m in 2007. Like-for-like sales were up 9.1% and pre-tax profit rocketed by an incredible 46.8% to £1.51m from £1.43m the year before.
And, despite the downturn in the housing market and consumer confidence, the company has said that saes have continued to grow in the same way with sales for the 16 weeks following year end showing a 7.8% rise on a like-for-like basis.
Chief executive Paul Eyre said the company had delivered "another good et of results" and that it was "despite tough conditions throughout the retail sector."
He went on: "Although cautious, we remain optimistic about the future and believe that our strategy [which includes steadily increasing store numbers] will form the base for our ability t continue to deliver satisfactory growth in the coming year."
