Noor Ramjanally who was found to have been wandering around his local DIY store at the time he claimed two BNP thugs abducted him at knifepoint, is found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Mr Ramjanally was sentenced to two years in prison but was absent from court after fleeing to his native Mauritius, admitting he was in the UK illegally.
The Muslim prayer leader alleged he had been bundled into a car at knifepoint and taken to Epping Forest, where he was threatened by members of the BNP and ordered to stop holing prayer meetings. However, he had been caught on CCTV getting into a taxi to his local Homebase in Loughton, Essex, and browsing the aisles before walking to the edge of the forest and dialling 999.
Ironically, the cameras that filmed Mr Ramjanally's movements, had been installed secretly in his block of flats by police who were concerned for his safety after he claimed to have received hate mail and been the victim of an arson attack.
Police are considering an extradition order and are now also investigating Mr Ramjanally and his wife for possible benefit fraud.
