Highest ever weekly sales.
Westland has released details of sales of Resolva 24H and West+ Advanced with claims of the highest ever-weekly sale of garden compost and weedkiller.
For the week ending Saturday May 10, the company said sales of Resolva 24H across gardening outlets exceeded the company's targets, before adding that Resolva 24H would be one of the biggest ever launches within the garden sector for many years.
"Resolva 24H has really delivered," said Edward Conroy, joint managing director of Westland Horticulture.
"If you look at retailer sales-out data and online message boards it's the only product being discussed. It is changing the way gardeners' approach the whole task of weed control and our consumers are telling us that it delivers on the promise too.
"As a result we are increasing TV spend to drive consumer participation in weed control and deliver market growth in the sector."
Busy
May Bank Holiday was one of the busiest gardening weekends.
It is estimated that the sales of growing media in early May hit a record high with more than 5 million bags of garden compost being sold in just one week.
Edward Conroy continued: "Growing media is the barometer of the garden industry and recent sales surge shows that the demand and interest for gardening is strong and recession proof.
"Consumers, no matter what level of experience, have made May Bank Holiday one of the biggest weekends ever.
"Westland is again witnessing strong growth across all sectors."
Westland launched its campaign for Resolva 24H after working with Aardman, the award-winning animators behind Wallace & Gromit.
The ad – featuring an exasperated gardener who has tried everything to get rid of weeds – runs on both digital and terrestrial channels for five weeks.
