Centenarian part of BBC programmes focusing on Briton’s oldest professionals
Phyllis Self, director of Whitehall Garden Centre, who celebrated her 100th birthday last year, was featured on The One Show on BBC last night.
The Whitehall boss was followed around by a camera crew for the day earlier this year and interviewed by presenter Angelica Bell.
Whitehall marketing supervisor, Sue Hardy said: "Phyllis thoroughly enjoyed the day. I think she was quite tired at the end of it all as it was quite full on. She had to go round all of the departments and answer lots of questions. She did absolutely brilliantly and I think she loved the buzz round the garden centre and the atmosphere."
Mrs Self still has an active role in the business, alongside her son Christopher and grandsons Mark and Peter, and still drives the short distance to work at the centre in Corsham Road, Lacock.
Mrs Hardy added: "All of the staff love Phyllis. They really look up to her and love having her at the centre."
Her 100th birthday on November 8 was marked with three parties, one of which included a celebration with her family and friends at Bowood House, a beautiful stately home in Wiltshire.
