Whiteleys GC attracts a lot of interest following administration
Published: 12 December 2012
West Yorkshire garden centre Whiteleys, which
fell into administration for the second time just weeks ago, has already notched up several potential buyers.
More than 20 non-disclosure agreements have been signed with property consultants Gilbert Evans, which is handling the sale of the business, which brings in an estimated turnover of £2m a year.
The 25-year-old garden centre was placed in the hands of administrator Begbies Traynor late last month due to "overall financial pressures."
Gilbert Evans partner Mike Gilbert said "a lot of interest" has been generated within the industry, and added: "This is a good centre with a quality infrastructure that will appeal to both independent and multiple operators."
The garden centre is freehold and has a turnover of some £2m. Turnover throughout November and December has held up well, in line with the sector generally. Offers are due to be submitted by close of business on Friday, December 14 with the intention of completing a sale as soon as possible thereafter.

In 2010 the centre was taken over by a group of private investors after previous owners Woldelve Ltd fell into financial difficulty. The business will continue to trade over the Christmas season with no current plans to make any of its 45 full and part-time staff redundant.
