Wickes manager takes on Tour de Jordan
Published: 7 November 2012
High Wycombe Wickes' store manager Chris Harrison will take on a gruelling nine day cycle in the heart of the Middle East on November 17 for the retailer's partner charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
Mr Harrison will be joined by his friend Tim Hyland, and the pair are hoping to raise £1,000 for the blood cancer charity. Mr Harrison said: "During our Tour de Jordan we will be taking in historic Jerash and Amman, the ancient city of Petra, both seas (Dead and Red) and follow in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia at Wadi Rum. It will be a tough journey from Jerash in the North, to the Red Sea in the south, over 400 miles of desert, all to be cycled in temperatures in the eighties. "
It's a challenge that won't be mastered without a great deal of training and an even greater deal of effort and determination. But I am determined to get to the end and raise our target of £1,000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research to help beat blood cancer."
Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research chief executive Cathy Gilman said: "Our partnership with Wickes continues to be a brilliant success and we are so grateful for all the fundraising they are doing for us.
"Good luck to Chris and Tim with the cycle - it's great that they are taking on this challenge. All the money raised will go towards our vital research into better treatments and cures for blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma."
