Jeremy Bird, managing director of Wickes, completed the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ last week along with divisional director Ian Kennedy – and with time to spare.
The challenge (which rather bravely took place on Friday 13!) involved climbing the three highest mountains in Great Britain in less than 24 hours and they completed it in an impressive 21 hours, 59 minutes.
More than £10,000 has already been raised by the climb for Leukaemia Research and donations are still coming in.
Mr Bird and Mr Kennedy both climbed all three peaks, while director of retail development Tim Matthews did the driving and joined in to climb the final mountain, Snowdon. In total, the trip involved 1,000 miles of driving and more than 3,400 metres of climbing, and of course descending.
Mr Bird said: "The whole challenge was incredibly tough, particularly on the last mountain, Snowdon, when we were suffering from lack of sleep. The thought of raising money for a great charity like Leukaemia Research drove us on though and I'm really pleased with our time in the end."
