Acquisition of the Yorkshire Garden Centre takes the group's total to six centres across England, with plans to purchase a further four centres over the next five years.
The Yorkshire Garden Centre, previously known as the Gilberdyke Garden Centre, in East Yorkshire, benefits from 4,000sq m of indoor and outdoor plant and retail areas. It is the fifth acquisition by Woodthorpe Hall since it began trading 21 years ago.
In 2000 the firm and its British Garden acquired Brigg Garden Centre, followed by Arcadia Garden Centre near Middlesbrough in 2008, and Spring Garden Centre a year later. Last year Woodthorpe bought Townley Garden Centre at Burnley from the receivers.
Following the latest acquisition, Woodthorpe Hall has announced plans to acquire a further four centres in the North and Midlands over the next five years, bringing the total number of outlets in its Britsh Garden Centres Group to 10.
Woodthorpe Hall director Charles Stubbs said: "We are delighted to have acquired the Yorkshire Garden Centre. It complements Brigg Garden Centre and our Spring Garden Centre at Sigglesthorne near Hornsea and is also ideally located because of its proximity to motorway links and to the A63 into Hull."
"We will be investing in the Yorkshire Garden Centre, especially to enhance its plant area and café, and we will be adding more staff to the existing team of 15 people. The British Garden Centres Group's ongoing expansion gives us increased retail stock buying power, and this enables us to pass on to our customers the savings we achieve."
Woodthorpe Hall Garden Centres Ltd reported a turnover of more than £14m in 2009, with a pre-tax profit increase of 65% on the previous year.
