Non-executive director passes away after 50 years with the company.
Woolworths Group has announced the death of Roger Jones. Mr Jones joined FW Woolworth in 1958, working his way up the businesses to become managing director of Woolworths plc in 1995.
He retired in 1998 but was invited to join the board of the newly listed Woolworths Group plc in 2001 upon its demerger from Kingfisher plc, and served as a non-executive director and chairman of the board's audit committee for more than seven years.
Chairman Richard North said: "Everyone at Woolworths is greatly saddened by this news. Roger was an integral part of Woolworths for many years, and his significant contribution to the business will be greatly missed.
"On behalf of the board and all of Roger's colleagues, I should like to extend my sympathy to his wife Joan and their family."
