Work begins on new £10m gardens at Bents

Work is underway at Bents to transform wasteland next to one of its stores into an area of extensive natural environmental and wildlife gardens.
The diggers are in at the Bents Garden & Home centre in Glazebury as work recently began to create a special new collection of gardens. They will provide visitors with a unique nature experience, comprising around seven wildlife zones and natural gardens.
The project is part of Bents'
£10m plan to be rolled out over the next five to ten years to enhance customers' experience.
Central to the project is a three metre deep pond which will gradually spread out into a natural bog and area. Over 14,000 tonnes of topsoil is being extracted and will then be used to create the contours and mounds that will form the divisions and pathways between the gardens.
Said chairman of Bents Ron Bent about the work at the site: "We are hoping that the new gardens and environmental zones will attract a huge variety of wildlife and insects, many of which are becoming harder to see and experience. It will also be home to a lot of moisture-loving natural plants."
An extensive new car park, a children's adventure play area and the Wild Wings Birds of Prey Centre have already been created at the Glazebury site. Further plans include creating a larger contemporary retail space with a two-storey high glazed atrium and setting up a farm shop selling produce sourced from the local areas.
