Wyevale has made the decision to close down Coley Garden Centre, which has been trading in Calderdale for nearly four decades, at the end of July.
The business, said to be no longer be viable, started life as Coley Nurseries. It was then taken over by the Garden Centre Group in 1997. After that it was transformed from a nursery into a thriving garden centre business boasting three greenhouses, a warehouse and a shop and operated with a wholesale and specialist plant business in tandem. Wyevale took on the business a short time later.
A Wyevale Garden Centre spokesperson told DIYWeek.net: "Our goal is to deliver the very best service and products to our customers across the UK. We've enjoyed operating Coley Garden Centre, but it's important that all of our sites remain fit for purpose and able to support our ambitious plans for the business.
"After careful consideration, we have decided to accept a bid for the site from residential developers. We are working with our colleagues to ensure we support them as best we can through this transition."
Prices are understood to have been slashed by up to 50% as the garden centre prepares for closure.
