Dobbies and Tesco team up for first joint venture

Published: 26 May 2011
£50m retail site in East Kilbride will feature Tesco supermarket and state-of-the-art Dobbies garden centre.
The multi-million pound proposals signal the first joint venture between Dobbies and parent firm Tesco in Scotland, which will see the two major retailers anchor the retail and leisure development at Peel Park, East Kilbride.

Tesco corporate affairs manager for Tesco Doug Wilson said: "Tesco has long held an ambition to develop a store in east Kilbride and we are looking forward to being part of this exciting development. It is an excellent opportunity to build upon our relationship with Dobbies and together we are committed to making this multi-million pound investment in East Kilbride."

The proposals include the construction of an £8m state-of-the-art Dobbies garden centre, while Tesco plans to develop an 80,000sq ft eco-friendly store - designed as part of Tesco's drive to become a carbon neutral company by 2050.

Dobbies director of properties Stuart Wright said: "We have received positive feedback from the community regarding our proposals for Peel Park. By creating parklands, ponds and allotments, we are creating a community attraction in addition to a garden centre."
