Keter focusses on its people to boost wellbeing

Published: 13 May 2021 - Neil Mead

Keter, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of home and garden products, is launching a group-wide challenge in the UK to help with employee wellbeing. Employees from both the Banbury and Redruth sites are being encouraged to take part in a ‘Reach for the Moon’ challenge, setting out to walk 240,000 miles – the equivalent of 480,000,000 steps by 31st December 2021.

The aim of the activity is to help employees enjoy some time out, to exercise during their working day and to benefit from the positive impact of being outdoors. Everyone taking part is using a fitness tracker to take on mini challenges and monitor progress individually and as a company. The great part is that staff can walk anywhere, with anyone and at whatever time.

With reports of an increase in mental health issues during the past 12 months which are having an impact on people’s working lives, Keter is taking action as part of a pledge to ensure everyone in the company feels valued, safe, and can contribute to the fullest of their potential.

Keter is also asking employees to fundraise for the event and all money raised will be donated to Mind. Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales and is there to make sure anyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support.

Mind surveyed over 16,000 people during the first lockdown and found that over half of adults and two thirds of young people said their mental health got worse during the pandemic, with many developing problems for the first time.

Kerry Murfin, Keter Marketing Director Europe, says: “We wanted to come up with an activity that, although we are still working apart, we can achieve together across our UK business. If there is anything that the last 12 months has taught us is that wellbeing should be at the top of the agenda. We are investing in the wellbeing of our employees all the time so not only are they happy and healthy at work, but they can also live positive lives outside of their day job.”

Keter employees receive several health and wellbeing benefits including a dedicated and trained Mental Health First Aiders Team and Healthcare package which can be opted into as part of the Keter Scheme. There is also a Keter Community Hub on Instagram for Keter employees to access health and wellbeing support and there are additional communities within the business where people have the opportunity to be involved as a team in fun and mindful activities.
