The garden planter manufacturer has announced the recent acquisition of an additional 26,000sq ft warehouse and offices in Colchester, Essex to serve as its UK headquarters. The previous Vegtrug HQ - also in Essex - will be utilised as an online distribution centre.

The new premises has been custom built and fitted to suit Vegtrug’s requirements for the coming years, including the creation of a new video and photography studio, so the company can continue to provide trade customers with professional photography and videos, along with supporting sales and marketing.

The site also incorporates a new product show room, meeting room, and state-of-the-art video and conference centre.

Vegtrug explained the decision to acquire the new site was made following continued expansion of the business and it believes the new premises will serve Vegtrug well as this growth continues. In 2016 VegTrug USA Inc was established in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania with a warehouse and office facility that serves to supply its products across North America. The company also opened a new European subsidiary based in Germany. VegTrug Europe GmbH began trading from September 2018, with offices in Frankfurt.

On Friday, August 9, local MP Will Quince visited the new HQ, spending an hour touring the premises and gaining an insight into Vegtrug’s operations. He was said to be pleasantly surprised to learn that the business was first established in Colchester and has since grown to become a global player in the gardening market.

Mr Quince was shown a range of recently-developed Vegtrug products and was impressed with both the range and the fantastic team of people that stand behind the brand. Vegtrug CEO Joe Denham said: “We were delighted to welcome Will and to be recognised for the work we have done over the last ten years in building the VegTrug Brand and to have a representative who is on the side of local business actually listening to our views.”

Vegtrug Limited was established in 2009 by founders Joe Denham and Paul Owen. Operating from a farm building and their dining room tables, Mr Denham and Mr Owen worked tirelessly to grow the business in the first few years, taking on its first dedicated premises in Ardleigh, Essex in 2011 and hiring the company’s first employee.

From the very start, one of the main goals of the business was export. This side has grown rapidly and the Vegtrug product is now established in 24 countries.

In 2012, VegTrug was sold to garden products supplier Takasho, which was already serving as the company’s sole manufacturing partner. Under the terms of the deal, founders Joe Denham and Paul Owen remained with the business.
