To celebrate the launch of Valspar paint in the UK, the brand has created a piece of illusionary artwork on the side of a building in central London.
The mural, which was commissioned by Valspar and brought to life by Poole-based community artist, Nina Camplin, makes it appear as though the side of a building has been knocked through to reveal the inside of a family home.
Painted on the side of a building on London's Clerkenwell Road in Islington and designed to inspire homeowners to be braver with colour, the 26 x 52ft artwork took 160 hours of painting to produce using a complex technique known as trompe l'oeil.
Artist Nina Camplin, who specialises in large-scale 'trick of the eye' paintings, used her skills to create the illusion of 3D scenes on a flat surface and the lifelike interior has already caused many to do a double take.
Valspar Europe's Jane Ryder said: "Our research reveals that 78% of UK homeowners choose to paint their homes in cream, white or neutral, with a mere 6% of the nation embracing bright colour in their interiors. As we launch in the UK and Ireland, we've made it our job to inspire the nation to be a little bit brighter and bolder in their colour choices, and, through its clever use of colour, we hope the artwork will do just that.
"The reaction from the public so far has been amazing. So many people have stopped to take photographs and ask the artists about the project - it's starting to feel like London's latest tourist attraction! We even have our regulars who visit the wall daily to watch the artwork unfold. We couldn't be happier with the public reaction to date."
The inside of the house was designed by interiors stylist, and Valspar colour ambassador, Will Taylor, otherwise known as Mr Bright Bazaar, taking inspiration from the 2.2 million different shades of paint Valspar has to offer.
Those wanting to see the final piece for themselves have until March 15 to visit 2 Clerkenwell Road, London, EC1M 5PQ.
